Fashion and Art as Talents

Posted on December 26th, 2008 in Arts and Artists by admin

To be fashionable and beautiful is what a lot of women would die for. However, things are not always easy as they seem. You can buy fashion books, read them and still end up being an unfashionable creature that doesn’t really fit it. It may be rude but that’s a sad fact that is hard to negate. Being fashionable is a talent because like a painter, someone who is into fashion knows how to mix the colors and come up with a magnificent work of art. And like all other talents, it has to be developed and practice because from there, you could have an eye for improving what you already know and have.

Monique Lhuillier: Wearable Runway Fashion

Posted on August 21st, 2008 in Arts and Artists, Fashion and Jewelry by admin

The words “wearable” and “runway” seldom find themselves within the same sentence yet Monique Lhuillier remarkably and tastefully makes this feat possible.

Any loyal follower of the ‘strictly’ runway fashion scene would admit that most of the glamorous creations carefully crafted and flaunted on the ramp would hardly make it beyond the Fashion Week; except of course on fashion catalogs, fashion magazines and fashion websites. Majority of the designs put together are either impractical or simply impossible to wear out in the ‘real world’.

Now among the red carpet perennials with the likes of Vera Wang, Ralph Lauren and Oscar de la Renta,  Monique cleverly gets around this issue of being ‘un-wearable’ by sticking to virtually basic styles and structures for her creations. Her designs are never outrageously-extravagant but are always charmingly and enchantingly feminine.

Her latest works presented in this season’s New York Fashion Week are mostly Chiffon dresses glitzed up by beaded ornaments; draped laces and organza fashioned as elegant, luxurious garb no-doubt inspired by Greek mythology; and stylish cocktail frocks that gracefully outline and emphasize the waist. Her palette consists of Yellow, turquoise and neutral. The key fabrics: Tulle, Chiffon and Organza Jacquard.

It would not be a surprise to find these creations gracing the red carpet in the coming year.
